Lots and Lots of Letters!

This week we are inspired by Alice in Wonderland to write letters ... lots and lots of letters.
Here is the the Fish-Footman delivering a great letter from the Queen of Hearts to the Duchess.
Our challenge this week is to write a letter and post it to someone. Once you have written your letter and sent it off in the mail, post a  comment about it on the blog. I could say I'm Mrs. Palfrey and I wrote to Isla and Ava to say I am looking forward to seeing them at the weekend.
Who will you write to? I'll give you a hint ... nanas love letters!

Hurray for Arrays!

As part of our maths we are learning about multiplication. To help us we are looking at arrays because they set the equal groups into rows.

Post a comment on the blog to say the multiplication equation that goes with this picture.
Find your own array to share on the blog. Take a photo or describe your array for others to say as a multiplication equation.

Skip Counting Patterns

This morning at Maths time Cantor group began with a scatter sort activity.
They noticed numbers that belong to skip counting patterns.
Here they are busily working together to create the patterns.

Write your own skip counting pattern in a blog post for others to name.
Your pattern can be forwards or backwards and can start from a number other than 0.
Here is my pattern   12, 10, 8, 6 ...

Alice in Wonderland Thinker's Keys

Poor Alice! She keeps shrinking and then growing. What will happen next?
Today we used the B.A.R. Thinker's Key to unlock our thinking about Alice in Wonderland.
We drew a picture of ourselves and made part of ourselves bigger, added something or removed something. We had to explain how our changes would affect what we could do.
Here is Rivah's picture.

Post a comment to say how you could change part of yourself
and explain what difference it would make.

Adventures in Wonderland

This term our Inquiry is based around Alice in Wonderland. The story is 150 years old this year so it's a great time to celebrate this famous and much-loved story.
We will be investigating Alice and the other wonderful characters as we wander through Wonderland.
Our first challenge is the Alphabet Thinker's Key. We need to compile a list of words from the story for each letter of the alphabet.
Post a comment on the blog by saying your Alice in Wonderland word and the letter.

I'll start ... A  Alice

Leadership Week is here!

This week is Leadership Week at Tauriko School and we will be celebrating all sorts of leaders in all sorts of ways.
Your challenge this week is to post a comment about someone at our school who shows leadership. Tell us their first name and say how they show leadership.
I'll start ...
Charlotte, in our class, shows leadership by being responsible for setting up Jump Jam on Friday for the junior classes. She is also a milk monitor who helps out in Room 4. Charlotte always remembers to do the jobs, she does them without being asked, and she always does them to a high standard. Charlotte volunteers to help and I know I can rely on her to do a great job.
Thanks for being a Room 6 leader Charlotte ... you rock!

Welcome Word Wizards!

As part of our on-going quest to unlock the mysteries of words and discover the magic of language we are learning about groups of words. This week we are looking at words that begin with the prefix under. A prefix is a word or group of letters that can be added to the front of a work to add a new meaning.

My word of the week is ... underground, which means under the ground.
This week's blog challenge is to find your own word that starts with under, write the word and then write it in a sentence to show its meaning.
This is definitely a challenge you should undertake.
