Let's celebrate Matariki!

Here are the seven stars of Matariki.

It is nearly Matariki - the Maori New Year and time to celebrate.
What do you know about Matariki that you can share with others?
Have you see the Matariki stars in the sky?

This week we will be revisiting the legend of Rangi and Paptuanuku and seeing how that ties in with Matariki.
Next week is our big Matariki celebration at school.

Music Around the World

As part of our cultures and festivals inquiry topic - Celebrate Good Times, we are looking at musical instruments from around the world.
Here is one that comes from Africa. How do you think it makes sounds?
What is it made of?
How could you make a similar instrument? What would you use to make it?

Head Students Blog

Head on over to the Hannah and Sophie's Head Students Blog. Click here.
They are running a competition at the moment based on leaders who inspire you. This fits perfectly with what we are looking at in class.  I don't know about you, but I can think of two leaders who inspire me - Hannah and Sophie!
Thanks girls for being the amazing leaders that you are.

Flat Stanley's Holiday Adventures

The end of Term 1 is nearly here and we are all excited about the holidays. We have a special friend to keep us company over the holiday ... Flat Stanley.
Flat Stanley is a children's book character who was squashed by a bulletin board that fell off the wall. He discovered that there are lots of things you can do when you are flat, and it's very easy to go on holiday. We are going to be writing about his adventures, taking photos and developing our literacy in all sorts of ways.
Here is my Flat Stanley ...
Here we all are with our Flat Stanleys ... ready for the holidays.
I can't wait to see what Flat Stanley gets up to!  Happy Easter and happy adventures.

Counting in Te Reo

2 Digit Numbers In Te Reo

Last week we were busy learning about 2 digit numbers in Te Reo. We even played Whare! to test our knowledge.
This week the challenge is to post a comment with a 2 digit number for your classmates to work out.
Here is my one ... who can work it out?

Last week we went to camp at Aongatete Lodge. We were there for Thursday and Friday.
Post a comment on the blog about your favourite part of camp and why you loved it.
We all faced challenges on camp ... what was your challenge and how did you manage it?
